AMBER AT A GLANCE
As the most vocal advocate for Safe Access in Oceanside, I spent months speaking at city council meetings working to educate our council members and the residents of our great city about the medical and financial benefits of allowing cannabis commerce in Oceanside, effectively moving the city to create its first Medical Marijuana Ad Hoc Committee and ultimately creating what cannabis regulations we have today. These regulations have also provided a new cash crop for our local struggling multi-generational farmers that will help them in this time of competitive imports and rising costs of labor and water rates.
Along with my husband David Newman, I sit on the board of the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation working with amazing individuals whom put in countless hours of work to bring Oceanside such events as The Oceanside International Film Festival, Oceanside Fall Festival, Oceanside Music Fest and Art Walls O’side. OCAF is dedicated to bringing arts and culture to our city’s youth sponsoring many events and scholarships for Oceanside students.
AN INDEPENDENT THINKER WHO SUPPORTS:
- Small Business.
- Clean Environment.
- Climate Stabilization.
- Solutions for Homelessness.
- Safe Access.
- Local Arts.
- Smart Growth.
- Oceanside Farmers.
- Government Transparency.
- Community Engagement.
OCEANSIDE MUSEUM OF ART
I am a member and sponsor yearly events at our Oceanside Museum of Art that include my favorite “Art After Dark” in our continued efforts to bring awareness to our local Museum and how much they do to bring art to all of us.
OCEANSIDE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
I am a longtime member of the Oceanside Charitable Foundation working directly with them to help fund local organizations that fit the specific theme of the year.
FRIENDS OF EL CORAZON
I sponsor The Friends of El Corazon “Once in a Blue Moon” event yearly in order to support our Heart of the City and advocated against any changes in the El Corazon Park Master Plan without the consent of the Friends of El Corazon.
OCEANSIDE MLK JR. SCHOLARSHIP FUND
I sponsor the City’s MLK Jr. Scholarship Fund yearly, these scholarships are provided to Oceanside graduates in need and go a long way to putting such wonderful students on the right track that will take them to their next level of education and great things for our society.
NORTH COUNTY LGBTQ RESOURCE CENTER
I support the North County LGBTQ Resource center and sponsor their Gala yearly. I also present regular donations to the resource center derived from the funds of a local beer promotion program at my husbands Oceanside bar and grill and have walked in parades with the resource center to further solidify my support and inclusion of everyone in our community.
I support term limits, if I am lucky enough to be elected in November, I will serve no more than two terms.
